the background

Applying to college can be an extremely daunting and challenging process. Recognizing this, the University of Florida Admissions team turned to the Agency at UF to help revamp their website to make it more accessible and engaging for potential applicants. Acting as the Art Department Manager as well as the Art Director on the project, I lead a team of six designers in restructuring and refacing 50 webpages over the course of two weeks.

Reflection

One of the most significant lessons I learned from this experience is the importance of effective communication and collaboration. Facilitating communication between various teams, including designers, other project teams, the client, and the executive department, was crucial for ensuring the project's success. I realized the value of transparent communication in conveying ideas, addressing concerns, and keeping everyone aligned with the project goals.

Moreover, leading the team as Art Director taught me the significance of providing clear direction and guidance while also fostering creativity and artistic exploration. Balancing these aspects was challenging yet rewarding, as it allowed us to develop a cohesive art direction that resonated with the client's vision while pushing the boundaries of creativity.

As Art Department Manager, I also learned the importance of advocating for the team and managing client expectations. Balancing the designers' workload and ensuring the client's needs were understood and met required diplomacy, negotiation skills, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Furthermore, the project taught me valuable lessons in time management and problem-solving. Completing a web redesign within a tight timeframe necessitated effective time allocation, prioritization, and the ability to find creative solutions to unforeseen challenges along the way.

Overall, this project was a tremendous learning experience that enhanced my skills in web design, project management, communication, leadership, and adaptability. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead and contribute to the success of the project, and I am confident that the lessons learned will continue to benefit me in future endeavors.
